POSITION:  Co- Teacher

REPORTS TO: Lead Teacher, Site and Education Directors

CLASSIFICATION:                 Full Time

EXEMPT/NONEXEMPT:          Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Salary Range: $17.00- $22.00

Flexible Schedule: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm or 9:30 am - 5:30 pm

 GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant Teacher will implement the preschool instructional program and support students in activities planned by the classroom’s Head Teacher. The Teacher’s Assistant assists in supervising and managing students throughout the day—in the classroom, on the playground, at meals and snacks, during transitions throughout the preschool, at arrival and dismissal times, and on trips.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise preschool children throughout the day – in the classroom, on the playground, at meals and snacks, during transitions throughout the preschool, at arrival and departure times, and on trips.

  • Ensure that an adult always accompanies students and are directly supervised as they move about the school and on trips.

  • Move around the classroom and be alert to individual student learning styles.

  • Provide classroom coverage as directed by the Director.

  • Assist the Head Teacher in preparing, implementing, and recording daily lessons.

  • Assist the Head Teacher in developing age-appropriate goals for children.

  • Ensure that the classroom is clean and orderly at the end of the day.

  • Work with the Head Teacher to assess students for signs of emotional difficulties, abuse, or neglect and report these to the Head Teacher, Family Service Worker, or Director.

  • Actively support the Head Teacher in addressing children’s needs.

  • Actively participate in student progress meetings as requested.

  • Develop supportive relationships with students, parents, and guardians.

  • Share talents and skills to enhance the preschool program.

  • Participate in professional development, including In-Service Training during the year.

  • Collect student work, correct progress reports, contact parents, write incident reports, and perform other clerical/office tasks as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Education and Site Directors.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS:

·Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.

  • HS Diploma or GED required

  • Child Development Associate Credential required within one year of hire.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Some experience working with preschool children, preferably in a school or a child center.

Maintenance Worker/ Custodian

The school custodian will be responsible for cleaning and securing the school building daily while proactively identifying and solving facilities-related issues to ensure a fun and safe environment.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Have handyman skills to fix minor repairs 

  • Support the cleaning and maintenance of the building.

  • Complete daily cleaning checklists for each assigned room and deep cleaning schedules.

  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.

  • Secure the building daily by shutting off lights. At the end of each shift, walk through the entire building to ensure all windows are closed and secured.

  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

  • Responsible for basic electrical, plumbing, and handyman repairs, such as painting, furniture repairs, and light carpentry.

  • Monitor inventory levels of maintenance materials and supplies.

  • Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.

  • Coordinate classroom and building moves, which require moving heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies.

  • Responsible for performing all work in accordance with established health and safety standards. Report all health and safety hazards to management.

  • Work with minimal direct supervision and operate effectively with a team.

  • Clear the walkways and steps of the building and surrounding areas in the event of inclement weather. Spread rock salt, sand, or other materials to ensure staff and student safety.

  • Event set up and breakdown; arrange or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, contractors, and vendors.

  • Must have the ability to pivot priorities quickly as there are many interruptions throughout the day.

  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, S-95,

  • Minimum of  2 or more years experience cleaning and doing handy work

Start Date: Immediately

Working Conditions

Must be able to work outdoors with exposure to seasonal weather conditions
Monday – Friday / 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm with some variation
Occasional before and after schoolwork hours as needed.
Must have a valid, clean driver's license

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Head Teacher is responsible for the academic, instructional, remedial, behavioral, and adaptive needs of all their children in an assigned age-level classroom as part of Chloe Day School & Wellness Center. The teacher must have strong management skills and techniques that can foster the preschool classroom instructional process and will supervise the Assistant Teachers and Volunteers working in the classroom. The teacher must have a functional understanding and ability to meet all reporting mandates as determined by various governmental agencies. The teacher must work cooperatively with fellow staff, parents, guardians, outside agencies, and funders to serve our children better.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represent Chloe Day School & Wellness Center mission, values, ethics, and always upholds agency Code of Conduct.

  • Oversee and provide classroom activities and instruction tailored to meet.

the children’s overall developmental goals.

  • Develop curricula and enrichment activities that will encourage student interest and participation.

  • Supervising Assistant Teacher (AT) daily activities and working collaboratively with AT for the betterment of classroom and students.

  • Follow schedule as developed collaboratively with the Educational Director.

  • Prepare daily lesson plans for all instructional periods.

  • Keep accurate records of individual student progress throughout the school year.

  • Maintain an appropriate physical environment in the classroom or work area. (cleaning tables, toys and any materials related to classroom instruction.)

  • Maintain appropriate safety measures to insure the protection of the children and staff.

  • Provide enrichment activities for the parents and guardians of our children at specially designated events that may be outside the regular center hours or on non-center days.

  • Make suggestions to the Director of Pre-school to further enrich the center's offerings.

  • Assist in other duties as assigned by the Site Director, including assisting with food service, if needed

  • Participating in Monthly team meeting and yearly Agency’s Self-Assessment protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION:

  • Preferred Master’s degree In Education and Birth – 2

  • NYS Teacher Certification( required, but can be on study Plan)

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, with NYS teacher certification process, started.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in an Early Child Care setting

  • Experience with NYC DOE, Head Start, and DOH regulations and training.

  • Experience with parent engagement

  • Basic Computer Skills

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide instruction for the Early Childhood age level population.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective management skills and techniques for an Early Childhood age-level population.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with the site director administration, fellow teachers, service staff, parents, and guardians.

  • Demonstrated ability to write appropriate and targeted student progress reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt your area of expertise to meet student learning needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with parents and other community members to meet student learning needs.
