About the event
Being a parent can be taxing, confusing, and stressful in the best of circumstances. Add in obstacles, like stigma, cultural differences, racism, discrimination, and limited access to mental health care and, decent educational experiences for your child. It’s no wonder BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) parents are more likely to grapple with mental health issues and poor parenting skills than their white counterparts. Good parenting skills help to strengthen children self – worth, development, and parent-child relationships. When parents are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources to parent, children have a much healthier lifestyle and thrive in life.
PWI is a 14-session, training and support space for parents and caregivers created by founder Dr. Sanayi Beckles- Canton. Apart from the Healing Space Parenting with Intention uses the Parenting Journey curriculum along with several pieces of training, around the spiritual formation, trauma-informed, and cultural awareness to create a safe space for parents and caregivers to explore parenting styles from a holistic approach.
All our curriculum and training models are grounded in family systems theory and trauma-informed practices. Our focus is on the strengths and resiliencies of families and recognizes the importance of instilling a sense of hope and possibility, even in the face of sometimes severe pathologies and destructive behavior.
